About Florrie Barron, lcsw

Welcome.

Hi, I’m Florrie Barron, LCSW (she/her)

I’ve always been fascinated by how people connect—with others, with themselves and the world around them. My journey into therapy started in college when I studied Psychology and Sociology in Boulder, CO. That’s where I first realized how much our past experiences shape us and how understanding ourselves can make all the difference in how we show up in life.

After I graduated I moved to New York to get my Master’s in Social Work at NYU. I was ready to dive deeper into the human condition and quickly found myself in all sorts of clinical settings—from inpatient psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital to working with people experiencing homelessness, severe mental health issues and all sorts of life challenges. These experiences showed me how different each person’s path can be and how important it is to meet people where they are.

Along the way I started noticing just how much our sense of self, our relationships and our emotional well-being are tied to how we see and express our sexuality. And yet it’s often ignored or stigmatized. So I became even more determined to create a space where we can talk about sexuality without shame or judgment, and normalize these conversations as a way of understanding ourselves and others.

One of the things I love most about this work is that it’s always changing. Not only do I learn alongside my clients but I’m also committed to continuous learning in my field. I actively seek out trainings, workshops and peer supervision to stay current with the latest therapeutic techniques and research. This means I’m bringing the most up to date knowledge and effective interventions into our sessions.

And most of all you are the expert in your own life. I’m here to support you. Whether it’s a life transition, your sexuality or just more balance and peace within.

My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion and curiosity, and I believe that therapy is a space for understanding yourself better, so you can show up more fully in life.

I am a person-centered therapist. I look at each client as an individual and tailor our work to their needs. Each person is uniquely different and my style shifts and changes depending on the client. I meet you where you are.

As a therapist I’m relational and psychodynamic, which means I focus on the relationship we build in the room together and how your past experiences impact your current feelings and behaviors.

Therapy is most effective when it’s based on trust, authenticity and a non-judgmental space.

No topic is off limits.

I am committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for people of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. I am here to support you with compassion, respect, and without judgment.
